BUENOS DIAS

🤖 The gist

Holy guacamole, another week flew by faster than a cheetah on a treadmill!

And guess what? It's already the end of January. Can you believe it!?

Speaking of time, are you still writing 2022 on your checks? Wait, does anyone even write checks anymore? 😂

Time flies by like Sonic the Hedgehog after a Monster energy bender. But don’t worry, you don’t have to keep up, you just have to keep moving to make the most of it.

Alright, let’s dive into today's edition of taking it slow by our resident philomath, just in time for his favorite holiday, Data Privacy Day. 🫠

But before you do, grab a yummy slice of chocolate cake and have some fun at work, while reading what he has to say. 🍰🤓

SLOW TO FLOW

🙇🏾‍♀️ Courageous decisions for ourselves

Love and hate of basketball in style of Miró | Hugging Face by Stable Diffusion 2.1

Growing up during the 80’s in the suburbs of LA, I was surrounded by two things. The Lakers and the pressures that come with being the second generation of a mixed South Asian family.

I knew more about Magic and Kareem’s stats than I did about quadratic equations. Every now and then, that would alarm my dad. Just as the Laker’s showtime era was reaching it’s peak, he called a sit-down and encouraged me to get serious about my future.

Thank Odin that my mom called the shots at home. Yeah, go figure! A South Asian being told what to do by the British.

Choosing what you love

My mom was unconditionally supportive and helped me realize that there was more to a fulfilling career than just status, or the endless pursuit of material wealth. I recognize the privilege but it still wasn’t easy.

I expect to pass through life but once. If, therefore, there be any kindness I can show, or any good thing I can do to any fellow-being, let me do it now, and not defer or neglect it, as I shall not pass this way again.

William Penn

It’s helped me empathize with the bravery of heroes like Simone Biles and superstars like Tyrell Terry. On Christmas Day 2020, Terry made his mark on the NBA stage. The former Stanford University guard scored his first points against none other than, my Lakers. 🤦🏽

Here he is playing along side Luka and staring down Lebron, all by the tender age of 20. For most, he had everything he could dream of. $1,500,000 in guaranteed salary playing for the Mavericks, fame, and all the fringe benefits.

Live your truth

I can’t imagine the pressures that went into Tyrell’s decision. But I think he did the right thing! In fact, it’s not just me.

Hey Tyrell! We’re all with you and applaud you for going #slow to find your #flow. 🙌🏼 👏🏾 🙏🏽

We believe that prioritizing your mental health and well being is the key to leading a fulfilling and successful life no matter what the haters say.

LOVE IT
