We all aspire to reach the summit. As solo trekkers, motivation is our trusted companion and also our saboteur.
When I set out on my freelance trail, I employed the best strategies to make ambition an ally. I time-blocked, prioritized tasks, and hacked productivity.
But I soon lost all the ground I gained.
Client wildfires blocked my way. Slowing down my hard-earned momentum. Once they were put out, an avalanche of obligations rushed in.
Sidestep one, three more appear. That's just the way it goes.
I came face to face with a steep cliff of missed meetings, new requests, and looming deadlines. My trip descended into dodging one disaster after another.
I realized that it was getting to me. I was tired.
So I stopped to reorient myself and resist the urge to scramble to make up for lost time. You know what? It all worked out fine.
Surprises along the journey will always throw huge boulders in your way. But we decide how we respond. Remember why we set out in the first place.
Some days that means accepting slower speeds so we have strength left to hike another day.
A life spent solely chasing peaks is no life at all.
About Rebekah Radice
Rebekah Radice, co-founder of BRIL.LA, has traded narcissism for purpose. When not driving growth, you'll find her tricking family into thinking she's Emeril Lagasse - likely covered in marinara. The spotlight was fun, but impact is better. These days she's using 20+ years of brand brilliance for good.
